THE PLACE & THE MUSIC

A place to pause.

St Mary’s stands at the heart of Oxford’s university history. A church has occupied this site for more than a thousand years, and the medieval university used it for gatherings, teaching, examinations and administration before purpose-built university rooms were established elsewhere.

The Gothic tower and spire still dominate Radcliffe Square, opposite the Radcliffe Camera and close to the Bodleian Library. The Baroque south porch adds another architectural layer. Its role as a place for public thought and listening continues in lectures, services and musical performances.

Dates and free admission are checked individually against the organiser’s listings.
