ART & SOURCES

Real places.
Drawn with care.

Our venue and composer illustrations share a warm graphite style. Each is an AI-generated interpretation grounded in photographs of the actual building or an identified portrait, then converted into vector paths with a transparent background. They are illustrations, not archival photographs or measured architectural drawings.

Some early composers are known through later or uncertain portraits. Those qualifications remain in the accessible image description and the credits below. Where a suitable reference-based illustration is unavailable, we use an anonymous graphite silhouette, never a claimed likeness.

Each venue gallery contains four graphite studies based on photographs of the real building or outdoor performance setting. We keep source credits here, reached through the site footer. Where a Creative Commons ShareAlike source has been adapted, the illustration is offered under CC BY-SA 4.0. Reference-only photographs without a reusable licence are not republished in the galleries.

The composers

The v8 portrait additions for Vittoria Aleotti, Girolamo Diruta, Orlando Gibbons, Thomas Morley, John Sheppard, Thomas Tallis, Giovanni Battista Bassani and Stéphane Jouan are transparent graphite studies. Tallis and Gibbons follow familiar later portrait traditions; where no definitive contemporary likeness is established, the image is a period-informed study rather than a documentary portrait. The Jouan study follows the supplied duet photograph. Traditional music is represented by a recorder and tabor rather than a fictitious person.

Portrait research has not established a dependable likeness for Pierre du Mage, Jean-Adam Guilain, Giovanni Gabrieli or Johann Pachelbel. Their entries retain anonymous silhouettes. In particular, commonly circulated Gabrieli and Pachelbel images have disputed or incorrect sitter identifications.

The lettering

The connected HC monogram is an original reference-led illustration converted to vector paths. The original five-language banner combines original illustrated calligraphy with musical ornament, converted into transparent vector paths. The eight musical-period cards use original graphite instrument studies. Earlier URW lettering and its font licences remain credited in the source archive. Font source · Font credit and licence.

Korean and Japanese banners use outlined Noto Serif CJK lettering with matching musical ornament. The font is by the Noto Project and is available under the SIL Open Font License 1.1. Font source · Font credit and licence

The city maps

The static venue maps use street and river geometry from OpenStreetMap contributors, distributed under the Open Database Licence. The monochrome cartographic styling is original to Hour Classics. Venue points use verified addresses and source positions; maps are orientation guides, not routing software.
