THE PLACE & THE MUSIC
A place to pause.
St Pancras Church on Euston Road was consecrated on 7 May 1822. William Inwood and his son Henry William Inwood won the architectural competition with a Greek Revival design inspired by ancient Athenian buildings. This is the New Church, a separate building from St Pancras Old Church.
Its most recognisable details are the caryatids above the entrances to the crypt. Modelled by John Charles Felix Rossi, their terracotta sections surround cast-iron supports; the extinguished torches and empty jugs refer to their role as guardians of the dead. Inside, Ionic columns frame the sanctuary and original pews survive alongside Victorian stained glass. The Grade I-listed building gives its present recital programme a distinctive architectural setting.
September dates are under review: the event listings show 12:10 while the series description says 13:10.
