THE PLACE & THE MUSIC

A place to pause.

St James’s grew out of the development of the St James’s Palace estate, authorised by Charles II in 1662. Christopher Wren designed the church, which was consecrated in 1684. Its Grade I listing recognises a building that has remained part of central London’s daily life for more than three centuries.

The church was rebuilt after the bombing of 1940. Its courtyard and Southwood Garden provide quieter spaces alongside Piccadilly, while the interior continues to welcome both worshippers and concert audiences. The present cultural programme includes music, visual art and public conversation, extending the church’s long association with the arts.

The lunchtime recital series welcomes voluntary donations. Check each event for the programme and admission details.
