THE PLACE & THE MUSIC

A place to pause.

St Luke’s was built to designs by Nicholas Hawksmoor and John James and consecrated in 1733. Its striking obelisk spire survives from the eighteenth-century church. Persistent settlement problems eventually forced the building to close in 1959; the roof was removed and the structure remained derelict for decades.

The London Symphony Orchestra identified the site as a home for its education and community programme in 1996. Restoration retained the historic shell while creating a flexible contemporary interior, and LSO St Luke’s opened in January 2003. A further refurbishment in 2024–25 improved facilities for performance, recording and learning. The free lunchtime series belongs to this renewed musical life.

Free Friday concerts include spoken introductions. Arrive early; seats are limited.
