THE PLACE & THE MUSIC

A place to pause.

The Shaw Library takes its name from Charlotte Shaw, one of the important women in LSE’s early history and a generous supporter of the School. Set high in the Old Building on Houghton Street, it offers a quieter, more domestic counterpoint to the busy campus below.

Books, portraits, period furnishings and a Steinway piano give the room the atmosphere of a chamber-music salon. Close audience seating makes its public lunchtime concerts unusually immediate, with performers heard in the same space used for reading, receptions and university gatherings.

Dates and free admission are checked individually against the organiser’s listings.
