St Marylebone Parish Church
A landmark on Marylebone Road, with a classical portico, a richly detailed tower and an active musical life.
THE PLACE & THE MUSIC
A place to pause.
The present St Marylebone opened in 1817, the fourth parish church in a history stretching back centuries. Designed by Thomas Hardwick, its monumental portico and richly layered tower announce an ambitious Georgian building on Marylebone Road.
The church was later altered and embellished during the nineteenth century, giving the interior a richer character than its restrained classical exterior suggests. Music is an important part of that inheritance: choral and concert traditions continue to bring performers and listeners into its broad, light-filled space.
