THE PLACE & THE MUSIC
A place to pause.
Completed in 1726 to James Gibbs’s design, St Martin’s brought a classical temple front and a soaring steeple together in a combination that became widely influential on churches in Britain and North America. Its position beside Trafalgar Square makes it both a landmark and a place of welcome.
Concert-going is woven into the building’s modern identity, from intimate recitals to larger orchestral performances. The light interior, galleries and prominent organ give short daytime concerts a sense of occasion while keeping them close to the movement of central London outside.
