Schönbrunn’s palace theatre forms part of the historic palace complex and is one of Vienna’s surviving eighteenth-century court theatres. The intimate horseshoe auditorium preserves the scale and decorative character of court performance rather than the proportions of a modern concert hall.

The theatre is used by Vienna’s University of Music and Performing Arts for performance and teaching, placing emerging musicians in an unusually historic setting. Events here are distinct from concerts in the palace’s other rooms and from paid visitor admission to separate attractions on the estate.
