Augustinerkirche
The Augustinian church beside Josefsplatz is a long-established centre of Viennese church music. Alongside its liturgical programme it hosts separately advertised concerts, including orchestral and organ performances.
THE PLACE & THE MUSIC
A place to pause.
The Augustinerkirche stands beside Josefsplatz within the Hofburg complex, its relatively plain exterior giving little indication of the tall Gothic interior. Founded in the fourteenth century, it later became the Habsburg court parish church and the setting for imperial weddings.
Its acoustic and organ sustain a long-established tradition of Viennese church music. Alongside the liturgical programme, the church hosts separately advertised orchestral and organ concerts; Hour Classics includes only those with clearly stated free admission.
Free concerts at different times of day; see each individually checked listing.
