AN OPEN INVITATION

Your first lunchtime recital

A little time in the middle of the day is all you need.

Choose something that catches your ear.

Start with an instrument, a composer or a venue. You do not need to recognise every piece on the programme. A recital is a good place to encounter music for the first time.

Check the practical details.

Read the date, time and free-admission label. Some organisers ask for free registration; others have limited seating. The official event page is the final place to check for changes before you travel.

Arrive with a few minutes to spare.

Give yourself time to find the entrance and take a seat. Keep your phone silent and follow the organiser’s guidance about photographs and recording.

Let the music unfold.

You can read the programme, or simply listen. If you are unsure when to applaud, waiting for others is fine. No preparation or specialist vocabulary is required.

Leave something behind, if you wish.

Some venues welcome voluntary donations. Your ability to pay is never a condition of attending the concerts listed on Hour Classics.
